Essex-based independent inspections · UK-wide by arrangement

Independent render, plastering and EWI inspections across Essex.

Concerned about cracked render, poor plaster finishes or external wall insulation workmanship? Final Measure offers a specialist trade-led assessment, from a focused online review to an agreed on-site inspection and written technical report.

Local experience · Independent evidence

A specialist assessment when workmanship is questioned.

Based in Essex, Final Measure is led by Alan Moir, a qualified plastering and rendering trade specialist with over 30 years of industry experience. We help homeowners, contractors, housebuilders and property professionals understand workmanship concerns without presuming who is responsible.

A crack, uneven finish or water stain is a starting point, not a diagnosis. The actual wall construction, render or plaster system, installation records, visible condition and site circumstances all matter. Findings separate observed evidence from possible explanations and identify where further investigation may be required.

Essex inspection starting fees

On-site inspection with brief written findings from £495

One accessible, agreed concern with photographs and concise written observations. For a more detailed evidence-led technical report including the local inspection, packages start at £895.

Prices include any VAT payable. Additional defects, access and travel outside the included local scope are quoted before booking.

What happens when you request an inspection?

  • Tell us where the property is in Essex, which finish is affected and your main concern
  • We review competence, possible conflicts and whether remote advice or a visit is appropriate
  • You receive an agreed scope covering access, deliverables, timing and fees before any inspection
  • Relevant accessible workmanship is examined and documented, with photographs and measurements where taken
  • Any written technical report is separately commissioned and records evidence, limitations and recommendations

What information should you keep before repairs?

Keep dated photographs of the overall wall or room as well as the affected area. Where available, retain the installation quotation, product names, drawings, system specification, weather or site records, previous reports and details of proposed repairs. Do not undertake destructive investigation yourself.

If render is loose or at risk of falling, arrange appropriate safety measures immediately. Where non-urgent remedial work is disputed, consider recording the existing condition before it is covered or removed.

Qualifications, independence and technical limits

Final Measure is founder-led, with NVQ Level 3 in Plastering and Rendering and NVQ Level 2 in External Wall Insulation. The scope is specialist plastering, rendering, dry lining and visible EWI workmanship, not a general structural, invasive or fire-safety survey. Previous relationships and conflicts are considered before instructions are accepted.

A technical inspection is not automatically a court-compliant expert-witness appointment. Any court-directed instruction needs separate suitability checks and agreed terms.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover Colchester, Chelmsford and coastal Essex?

Yes, inspections may be arranged throughout Essex, including Colchester, Chelmsford, Tendring, Southend-on-Sea and Basildon. Access, availability, travel and any inspection or reporting fees are confirmed in advance.

Can I start with an online inspection?

Yes. A scoped online review can help assess photographs, drawings and records, and establish what further evidence may be needed. It cannot verify concealed construction, adhesion or conditions that require site measurements.

Does a site visit include a detailed report?

The standard on-site inspection, from £495, includes a brief written findings summary. A full technical report is a more detailed document; our inspection-and-report package starts at £895 for one local issue. All deliverables and fees are agreed before work starts.

Do you only inspect in Essex?

No. Essex is our home base, but online consultations are offered across the UK and site inspections may be arranged nationwide by agreement.

Whether you are a homeowner concerned about recent render or a contractor responding to a workmanship complaint, a clearly defined inspection can help establish what the available evidence actually shows.
