External wall insulation defects · UK-wide
EWI defects, workmanship concerns and independent system reviews.
We examine safely accessible external wall insulation defects and compare relevant observations with project records and the specified system. Remote advice, site visits and evidence-led reports are available by agreement.
Visible EWI problems worth investigating
External wall insulation is a coordinated system, not simply render over insulation boards. Concerns at openings, plinths, penetrations and terminations need to be viewed in the context of the actual specified system and its design.
- Cracking, staining, surface failure or debonding of the render finish
- Visible junction concerns around windows, doors, sills and reveals
- Plinths, base tracks, flashings and termination details
- Corners, movement joints, penetrations and adjoining construction
- Apparent reinforcement or finish workmanship inconsistencies
- Differences between recorded installation and the supplied specification
We review visible conditions and available installation evidence. We do not claim that an external visual inspection proves the condition of concealed fixings, insulation, fire barriers or the entire system build-up.
Checking the specified system, not guessing
Relevant documentation may include the EWI manufacturer's current and project-era instructions, installation details, specifications, drawings, product information and site records. Where sources are available, we record the document revision and identify what each requirement applies to.
If the insulation type or system manufacturer is uncertain, we explain that uncertainty instead of treating one generic detail as suitable for every EWI installation. Specific fire-safety, structural design and retrofit compliance judgements require appropriately competent specialists.
Online EWI review, inspection or full technical report
An online review may help clarify a visible concern or assess supplied plans and photographs. Where access is feasible, a site visit can document locations, junctions, visible finishes and measurements. A separately commissioned written report can then set out evidence, observations, limitations, possible causes and recommended follow-up.
Our remit is specialist workmanship assessment, not system certification, PAS 2035 role fulfilment, fire-safety design or structural certification.
Frequently asked questions about EWI defects
Can cracking reveal a fault in the EWI system?
Cracking may have several explanations. The pattern, location, movement, finish build-up and relevant installation details need examining before drawing conclusions about an underlying system fault.
Can you check whether the installed system meets its specification?
We can compare visible details and available records against an identified specification. Confirming concealed layers normally needs appropriate testing or opening-up under a separately agreed scope.
Do you travel nationwide for EWI inspections?
Suitable site instructions can be arranged across the UK, subject to access, availability, competence checks and agreed travel costs.
