Rendering defect inspections · Nationwide UK
Cracked, hollow or failing render? Get an independent assessment.
Final Measure examines visible render defects and the supporting technical evidence. Arrange a remote review, an on-site inspection or a separately commissioned written report.
Common external rendering defects we examine
Cracks, staining or a loose-sounding finish do not automatically establish the cause or which trade is responsible. The render system, substrate, workmanship, weather, surrounding construction and building movement all need consideration.
- Cracking, crazing and fractures around windows, doors and movement joints
- Hollow or debonded areas, blistering and detached render
- Uneven finishes, colour variation, staining and localised surface breakdown
- Beads, reveals, terminations, sealing and interfaces with adjoining materials
- Suspected preparation, application thickness or curing problems
- Concerns involving silicone thin-coat, monocouche and traditional render systems
Our findings distinguish the condition observed from a possible cause. If concealed construction or adhesion cannot be assessed visually, we will identify whether further opening-up, testing or specialist input may be necessary.
What happens during a render defect inspection?
We first review the reported issues, property history, available photographs, contract documents and the specified render system. For an on-site instruction, we inspect agreed safely accessible elevations, record defect locations and take relevant photographs and measurements where practicable.
We can compare observations against the actual manufacturer's technical information, project details and relevant published guidance where applicable. A short inspection, remote consultation and full written technical report are different services with their scope and price agreed in advance.
Independent render reports for disputes and remedial work
Homeowners, installers, developers and main contractors may need an impartial account of what has gone wrong before discussing repairs or responsibility. A commissioned report can identify the inspected areas, evidence reviewed, observations, limitations, possible explanations and proportionate next steps.
We do not promise a particular conclusion or assign legal liability. An ordinary defect report is not automatically a court-compliant expert witness report.
Frequently asked questions about render defects
Are cracks in new render always a defect?
Not always. Their significance depends on crack location, width, development, render specification, adjacent materials and the cause of movement. It is not reliable to apply a single pass-or-fail crack width to every render system.
Can you inspect a rendered property anywhere in the UK?
We offer remote technical reviews nationally and arrange site visits across the UK where suitable, subject to availability, access and agreed travel costs.
Do I need a full written report?
Not every concern requires one. An initial discussion or scoped inspection may help determine whether a detailed evidence-led report is proportionate.
